Ottawa River (Kichi Sibi) Guided Ski Tour Registration
What is this tour: This tour takes skiers along the Kichi Sibi Winter Trail, and right next to the Kichi Sibi, also known as the Ottawa River. This beautiful river holds a lot of historical, cultural and ecological importance that many people living in Ottawa don’t know much about! This two hour tour will include a short classic technique ski lesson, and a guided ski along the river with breaks to learn more information related to its cultural and natural history.

Who is this tour for: This tour is for cross country skiers who are comfortable skiing in a group, who can ski consistently for 6km or one hour and who are vaccinated against COVID-19 and are able to wear a mask. This tour is great for all ages and is for anyone who wants to learn more about the Kichi Sibi! For those that do not have skis, there are a limited number of free classic ski rentals available.

When is this happening: There will be two tours occuring on Sunday, March 6th: the morning tour is from 10-12pm, and the afternoon tour is from 1-3pm. There will be a maximum of 20 participants on each tour to allow for adequate social distancing and to follow current health guidelines.

Where will we be skiing: This tour is taking place on the unceded, traditional territory of Algonquin Anishnaabeg, along the Kichi Sibi. We will be meeting at behind the Canadian War Museum parking lot, skiing along the Kichi Sibi Winter trail to Remic Rapids, and skiing back to end at the Canadian War Museum.

Why is this such a great tour to come to: This tour is the community volunteer project of two participants involved in the CPAWS Canadian Wilderness Stewardship Program. Meghan Burns is an experienced cross country ski teacher, coach and racer, who has worked in public history education for the Canadian War Museum, Canadian History Museum, Ottawa Urban Adventures, and Parks Canada. Josh Franklin is an environmental advocate involved in the Ottawa Riverkeeper and CPAWS.  They are both enthusiastic young community leaders who are excited to get more Ottawa residents outside and learning this winter!

If there are still more questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Meghan by email (meghanburns@rogers.com). We aim to make this tour as barrier-free and accessible as possible, so please let us know if you have any needs that were not addressed in the information provided.
