MSFU "Sams" (geneeskunde), U.P.S.V. "Unitas Pharmaceuticorum" (farmacie), M.B.V. Mebiose (biomedische wetenschappen), Hygieia en D.S.K. (diergeneeskunde) organiseren in 2021 het One Health Congres!
Het congres zal dit jaar plaatsvinden op 10 mei van 15:30 tot 20:30. Het thema is dit jaar Globalisering en dit onderwerp zullen we met behulp van een viertal lezingen uitdiepen. Daarnaast is er de mogelijkheid om deel te nemen aan een workshop om zo in een klein groepje op een deelonderwerp dieper in te gaan. We zullen de avond afsluiten met een panelgesprek waar kritisch zal worden gekeken naar het effect van globalisatie op One Health. Kortom een hoop te zien en een hoop te leren!
Het congres zal online plaatsvinden met tussendoor een ruime pauze om te kunnen eten.
De deadline voor het opgeven van de workshops is op 6 mei, we proberen iedereen de workshop van zijn of haar keuze te geven maar geven geen garanties. Na opgave krijg je tussen 6 en 10 mei een mail met definitieve informatie.

MSFU "Sams" (medicine), U.P.S.V. "Unitas Pharmaceuticorium" (pharmacy and CPS ), M.B.V. Mebiose (biomedical sciences), Hygieia en D.S.K. (veterinary medicine) will be organizing the One Health congress in 2021.
The congress will take place on may 10 this year 15:30 till 20:30. The theme of this year will be globalisation. There will be four lectures to elaborate this subject. On top of that you will have the oppurtunity to join a workshop to discuss a sub-object more thoroughly. We will end the evening with a panel discussion to look critically to the effect of globalisation on One Health. In short a lot to see and a lot to learn!
The congress will be held online, with a break long enough to have dinner.
The deadline for application for the workshops is on the 6th of May, we try to put everyone in the workshop of their choice. However, we do not garantee you will be able to follow the workshop of your first choice. After application you will receive an email with definitive information between 6th and the 10th of May.

One Health game (in DUTCH):
Stand in the shoes of the NVWA or RIVM and try to prevent an zoönotic outbreak together with students of different medical fields! Every game will be with max 10 students.
~Een crisisgame waarin twee partijen met elkaar – onder druk– moeten samenwerken. De game maakt gebruik van een digitale applicatie. Deelnemers zitten tijdens de game achter schermen en krijgen in een hoog tempo steeds weer nieuwe informatie binnen (via mail, twitter, teletekst, you tube en de digitale krant). Als zij deze informatie goed bestuderen, constateren zij dat er zich een crisis aan het ontwikkelen is ergens in Nederland. Vervolgens moeten beide partijen gaan samenwerken, een crisisorganisatie opzetten, een communicatiebeleid vormgeven en de regie over de crisisreductie in handen nemen.
Lowering your carbon footprint as a means for increasing health - Dr. Anouk Schuren:
The relationship between health and climate is bi-directional. Health is influenced by the environment, but the large carbon footprint of scientific research harms that very same environment and thereby indirectly our health. As negative as this may sound, it also provides an opportunity for having a positive impact that stretches far beyond lowering your individual carbon footprint. So what causes a large carbon footprint? Who is responsible for a more sustainable society? And what positive impact can you have on this yourself? In this workshop, based on the Klimaat Gesprekken method, we will reframe sustainability in a positive manner, seeing it as an opportunity for change.
Risk communication:
This workshop will be about the communication around the contested issue of intensive livestock farming. In the Netherlands, the future of intensive livestock farming recurrently involves societal debate. Since the largest Q fever outbreak worldwide - a disease transmitted from infected goats to humans - which took place from 2007-2011 in the Netherlands, more scientific research has shown potential health risks for neighbouring residents. The livestock-related health effects and their possible impacts have caused public discussion and protests against increases in scale. Various stakeholders are involved in these discussions such as livestock farmers, local residents and health scientists. What makes it a contested issue? What are the perspectives of the different stakeholders? And is a science-driven approach the solution?
Pharmacotherapy for pain management in animals - Prof. dr. Ronette Gehring:
Just like humans, animals feel pain when injured or sick. And just like human doctors, veterinarians use analgesics to alleviate pain and the associated discomfort and suffering in their animal patients. There are many similarities, but also important differences, in the analgesics we use in veterinary medicine compared to human medicine. To apply these medicines safely and effectively, we need to consider both differences in the pharmacokinetics (how the drug moves through the animal’s body) and the pharmacodynamics (how the drug affects the animal’s body). In this workshop, we will look at three examples of commonly used analgesics to compare and contrast how analgesics are safely and effectively used in different animal species, including the human.
