Field work will take place from July 8-14 (plan to arrive by the evening of July 7th), on the Routt National Forest in northwestern Colorado. The crew will be camping at a site TBD at an elevation of around 9,000 feet. Participants should be prepared for temperatures to drop into the 30s in the evenings and for a moderate hike each day. Participants should anticipate being away from camp and vehicles during the day and be prepared with ample water and appropriate clothing during the day.
This project will consist of extensive documentation of a Wickiup structure (aboriginal wooden feature) that likely served as a temporary housing feature. The site has been previously recorded but crews on this project will document the wooden poles with detailed mapping; carry out survey around the feature for artifacts and possibly other, previously undocumented structures; and possibly conduct light testing and metal detector surveys.
