Planning in the Moment - Nursery
Dear Parents/carers,

We are passionate about offering the best possible provision for our pupils in Nursery. We believe that children learn best when they are highly engaged in activities of their own choosing so we operate a 'planning in the moment' approach, which simply means that we interact with children as they play and seize the teachable moments as they arise. We record observations of what we see and how we have moved the learning on. This enables us to get to know each child as an individual, what their interests are and how best to teach them what they need to know.

With this approach, we follow the children's interests as much as we can. This means that we explore options for taking the children offsite for little trips within the local area. If children show an interest in baking after reading The Gingerbread Man for example, we will help them to plan a trip to the local shop, write a shopping list, handle money, buy the ingredients and finally make and share the recipe. The learning opportunities are endless and much more meaningful when the children themselves choose what they want to do. Our practitioners are skilful at spotting these teachable moments and supporting children whilst helping them to safely develop their independence.

To do this effectively, we need your permission to take the children off-site as part of their learning, as and when we see an opportunity. Each trip will adhere to health and safety regulations with risk assessments in place for all venues, as well as the recommended ratio of adults to children.

Please sign the permission slip below to confirm you are willing for your child to take part in any visits to the local area, peer hand massage with skin safe oil, soap exploration, forest and fire pit activities, tasting new and unusual flavours of fruit (decaffeinated) tea, face painting, riding the bus to the local shop, etc, to name just a few!. We would be thankful if you could support us with a small voluntary contribution for these trips at the beginning of each term to enable us to give your child real life experiences. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak with one of the team.

Yours sincerely,

The Nursery Team
