2023 Maine Golf Scholarship Fund Application: New Students
The Maine Golf Scholarship Fund was established in 1950. Since its inception, the fund has awarded over $1.8 million to deserving high school graduates from all 16 counties across the state of Maine.

The Scholarship Fund Committee, comprised of Maine Golf Board members, staff, and volunteers, awards scholarships to deserving high school seniors each year based on the following criteria: participation in golf (whether through employment, competition, or leisure), academic achievement, financial need, character, integrity, and leadership. Each award provides a $1,500 college scholarship per year for a maximum of $6,000 over 4 years.

Additionally, thanks to the generosity of Frank Langlois, two additional one-time $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to deserving seniors, identified by the Scholarship Committee, who meet the criteria that Mr. Langlois identified as part of his gift. Students pursuing education in agronomy are given preference but that is not the sole deciding factor in determining the award. This is a one year scholarship. In subsequent years, Langlois Scholarship recipients may apply for a prorated share of the six to ten scholarships above which can result in an overall award not to exceed $9,500.

In order to be considered by the Scholarship Fund Committee, a candidate must complete the online application in its entirety by May 15. Applicants must also submit a copy of the student's academic transcript and a copy of the EFC score in addition to the online application. The committee will review the applications and select the scholarship recipients by June 15 based on the criteria below:

1. A candidate shall have shown an active interest in Maine golf (i.e. participating as a player, as a caddie, and/or working at a Maine golf shop or course)

2. Candidates must establish their need for financial assistance to attend college

3. Candidates must be graduates or prospective graduates of an accredited secondary school, in good academic standing, and be legal residents of the state of Maine

4. Candidates must be outstanding in character, integrity, and leadership as exhibited by participation in extra-curricular, civic and/or community activities

It is the policy of Maine Golf to annually renew a scholarship until a baccalaureate degree has been earned or the total award is reached, whichever comes sooner. Recipients of the scholarship must maintain an academic record that justifies continued scholarship assistance. Grade reports will be required. For purposes of scholarship renewal, academic progress shall meet a minimum GPA threshold of 2.5.

The final decision to award a scholarship is dependent upon the applicant's ability to obtain admission to a two-year or four-year college. A student who elects to take a year off from study must reapply for the scholarship upon re-entering his or her academic program.
