Experiential Learning Post Survey 2022-23
WHO WE ARE

Our Initiative: Why we focus on Experiential learning/Extra-curricular Programs

Wright Frame of Mind Children’s Foundation® is a collaborative network of educators, community workers, parents, and philanthropists, dedicated to enhancing opportunities for underserved children, who lack access to Experiential Learning [EL] programs. We know that education inequality affects opportunities for specific groups of children and youth. We also know that inequitable access to resources can often determine an individual’s outcome in life. We want to close that gap! At Wright Frame of Mind, we provide access to fundamental experiential learning programs, which allow children to further develop their literacy/math skills and attain necessary essential skills that are required to fully participate in the global knowledge economy.

When taking a closer look at the importance of literacy and essential skills, the statistics can be overwhelming but magnify a significant problem that demands serious attention. Almost 40% of Canadian youth do not have adequate literacy levels.   In another article findings suggest, one third (32%) of business leaders now expect that finding talent will be the greatest issue facing Canadian companies.  The reason being, young workers and recent graduate’s lack real-world experience. In the same report, one top executive explained: “They have to have a little experience under their belt along with the education. Training someone cold is a very big cost.” Among employers, positive attitude, communication skills and a strong work ethic are the most highly valued essential skills. These facts emphasize the correlation between, and importance of, literacy and social programs.

To summarize the larger picture, in the 21st century, communities and employers will require individuals to embody a broad set of skills and knowledge. 21st century students not only need to be academically sound, instead, they must possess global competency skills. This generation of students must demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship as well as self-directed learning skills; skills that can be learned through extra-curricular/ experiential learning programs.

At Wright Frame of Mind, we are dedicated to unlocking and motivating children to enhance their literacy and social skills. We want to give this opportunity to students who demonstrate zeal, talent and high levels of academic potential.  With a great focus on uplifting children and youth through access to literacy, math and social programs, we strive to eradicate high school dropout rates, long-term unemployment and higher crime rates.

Join us as we strive to cultivate a strong generation through the power of holistic development. Our duty is to embrace and utilize community collaboration to help our young citizens create a positive future for themselves and others. If we fail to address issues of illiteracy, financial literacy and social development, which inevitably impacts upward mobility, then we fail to recognize the importance of the development of humanity. Literacy, math and social development are prerequisites to prosperity!

Wishing you all the best,
Ms. Wright   M.Ed., OCT
