Fellows Inclusion Petition

Hello Graduate Workers!

From the start, the SGWU (Stanford Graduate Workers Union) has committed itself to representing the interests of any working graduate student on campus. It is our position that it shouldn’t matter how you get paid; you deserve the same rights and protections as your peers!

Stanford doesn’t share this opinion. It is their belief that those funded through a fellowship aren’t employees. They believe fellows don’t have to work to get paid, and therefore shouldn’t be able to join the union. However, workers on fellowship are still subject to the working conditions set by Stanford, and they helped organize to make this union possible. They deserve union representation just like every other graduate worker.

As negotiations with Stanford begin, the SGWU will call on the administration to recognize fellows as employees eligible to join the union. We ask you to lend your voice to this call by signing the petition below. All of us are workers, and all of us deserve the right to unionize!
