Letter to James Rogers, Chair, UT Inland Port Authority Board (sign-on form)
Dear Utah Inland Port Authority Chairman Rogers:

We are alarmed by references to a new transloading facility being proposed by the Utah Inland Port Authority and slated to be built on undeveloped land in Salt Lake City’s northwest quadrant.

First, the taxpaying public does not have full information about what is being proposed, the amount of tax dollars being spent, and the consequences of the proposed transloading facility.

Second, it appears from what we do know that this transloading facility is part of a deal that UIPA is striking with the Port of Oakland and the Port of Long Beach.

Why should our tax dollars be used to support the Port of Oakland, and private business interests? And why should our tax dollars be used to build a transloading facility which will cause our communities to suffer from polluted air, traffic congestion, destruction of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem and increased greenhouse gas emissions?

We are asking that no action be taken to fund the transloading facility at the June 16 UIPA board meeting, and that the public be given complete information with a 60 day public comment period before any action is taken.

Sincerely,
