We would like to learn more about the type of fish people are eating from the Peninsula Harbour Area of Concern (Peninsula Harbour), how much they are eating and how often. The information collected in this survey will remain confidential and will be used to help guide decisions on the status of the Peninsula Harbour Area of Concern  and to improve the provincial Guide to Eating Ontario Fish.  

The information is being gathered by Red Sky Métis Independent Nation for the Remedial Action Plan team (Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and Environment and Climate Change Canada), that is working with others on monitoring the health of Peninsula Harbour.

We are not interested in knowing if you have a fishing license and will not be asking any questions related to any laws. Survey responses will be summarized and will not be linked to an individual.

Peninsula Harbour was identified as an Area of Concern in 1987 because of degraded water quality and ecosystem health due to historical activities in the area. It encompasses 12 kilometers of shoreline, and is roughly bounded by the harbour to the north of the peninsula, Pebble Beach to the south, and extends approximately four kilometers into Lake Superior as shown by the yellow boundaries on the map.

There has been significant improvement to water quality and ecosystem health, however more work is required to assess restrictions placed on consuming fish caught from Peninsula Harbour. This survey will assist with the assessment by providing current representation of consumption habits by area residents.
