Recruitment, Management and Motivation of Volunteers

DATE - Wednesday 22nd May, plus follow-up session, date TBC.

TIME  - 9.30 am - 1 pm

LOCATION Natwest Training Room, Second Floor, Library Place

COST -   £45 for any employee or volunteer from an AJC member charity.  Fee for non-members: £90.

This training will help you identify new sources of potential volunteers and how your organisation can take steps to recruit, support, motivate, and retain them.

In the half-day session (3.5 hours), you will be given all the knowledge to be able to understand the key
principles of volunteer management, including:

  • Identify your organisation's need for volunteers, including board members (voluntary leadership) and
  • the types of volunteers you need to attract.
  • How to develop volunteer roles and projects.
  • Identifying what systems (volunteer policies) you need to have to manage volunteers effectively.
  • How to get your volunteer recruitment and marketing underway.
  • Strategies for retaining volunteers.
We will also examine how managing volunteers differs from managing employees and provide guidance on planning an effective volunteer recruitment campaign, selecting and placing volunteers, and developing a volunteer induction programme.

Armed with all the theory and knowledge you have gained, you will be tasked with writing your draft volunteer management policy. We expect this to take at most 9 hours, with a further three devoted to creating your presentation to the group. This will also be useful for presenting to your board to get their buy-in. You will present your outline volunteer policy to your peers, after which we will have time for peer critique and to consider the next steps in implementing the volunteer policy and plan. This follow-up session will be held on a date agreed upon by those attending the course.
