Rehearsals will be on Tuesday mornings from 7:30--8:20. S̲t̲u̲d̲e̲n̲t̲s̲ ̲a̲r̲e̲ ̲r̲e̲s̲p̲o̲n̲s̲i̲b̲l̲e̲ ̲f̲o̲r̲ ̲t̲h̲e̲i̲r̲ ̲o̲w̲n̲ ̲t̲r̲a̲n̲s̲p̲o̲r̲t̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲ ̲t̲o̲ ̲s̲c̲h̲o̲o̲l̲ ̲o̲n̲ ̲r̲e̲h̲e̲a̲r̲s̲a̲l̲ ̲d̲a̲y̲s̲. Only Chorus members will be allowed into the building at that time (no siblings or friends allowed until 8:20). Please drop off your student in the BUS LANE (front office) between 7:25 and 7:30.

Attendance and Good behavior: Because of the performance nature of the Chorus, certain behavior standards are required.  A̲t̲t̲e̲n̲d̲a̲n̲c̲e̲ ̲i̲s̲ ̲m̲a̲n̲d̲a̲t̲o̲r̲y̲ ̲f̲o̲r̲ ̲c̲h̲o̲r̲u̲s̲ ̲m̲e̲m̲b̲e̲r̲s̲. ̲S̲t̲u̲d̲e̲n̲t̲s̲, ̲w̲h̲o̲ ̲h̲a̲v̲e̲ ̲t̲h̲r̲e̲e̲ ̲u̲n̲e̲x̲c̲u̲s̲e̲d̲ ̲a̲b̲s̲e̲n̲c̲e̲s̲ ̲f̲r̲o̲m̲ ̲chorus ̲may ̲b̲e̲ ̲d̲r̲o̲p̲p̲e̲d̲ ̲f̲r̲o̲m̲ ̲t̲h̲e̲ ̲chorus. A letter will be sent home to the student’s parent/guardian.  

Because of the large number of students that attend the chorus, chorus students are expected to show the maturity of judgment and self-control in rehearsals, in terms of behavior. Students are expected to treat others with respect. Minor discipline incidents will be handled with a warning, teacher/student conference, or a phone call/email to parent.

I ask two important things of my students: 1) To remain quiet during rehearsals and avoid side conversation. 2) Coming prepared to rehearsals. As I explain to my students, my job is to guide them into sounding amazing for their performances. Their jobs are to listen, audiate, memorize lyrics, and apply musicianship. Since I only see my kids for 40-45 minutes once per week, preparation outside of rehearsals is important. In chorus, students will be learning the important concepts of choral pedagogy such as breathing, whole body musicality, reading, and phrasing, articulation, understanding/connecting to the music, pitch precision, music history, music theory and more.

P̲E̲R̲F̲O̲R̲M̲A̲N̲C̲E̲S̲: This is a performance-based group and every member of the group is important! Please mark the performance dates on your calendar as soon as they are shared! Because of the performance nature of the Brookwood Elementary Chorus, certain behavior standards are required.

MESSAGES: E-mail is the most effective way for me to share information and updates with everyone. Please check email for important information about chorus.

E-CLASS/GOOGLE CLASSROOM: In addition to E-mail Messages, E-Class and Google Classroom will be used for communication. I will add the students to the course after they sign-up so they can access my posts, rehearsal recordings, lyric study sheets, and photos/videos from performances. It is important for students to check their E-Class and Google Classroom pages regularly!
