2024-25 AVID Application
If you're interested in joining our AVID family at Serrano, please complete this application.  Whether your are an incoming freshman, sophomore or junior, if you are NEW to AVID, you will need to complete the application. We will review your responses and notify you if you are accepted by late May/June.  We look forward to reading complete sentences, proper punctuation and thorough answers.  The application deadline is March 31, 2024. AVID is an elective class and we hope that you choose to stay in the program all four years of high school, therefore other electives may need to be taken during another year, online, or during the summer?  Are you willing to commit to this? *
Are you willing to use an AVID-approved binder for all of your classes? (We ask that students use one binder with dividers for all of their subjects so AVID teachers can collect them during class and look over the strategies you are using to study, take notes, etc.) *
Are you willing to take notes in your regular classes for AVID tutorials? (Tutorials happen twice a week and it's a place where students can bring homework or questions about work - we call these Points of Confustion or POCs.)  Peer tutors help facilitate the tutorials but don't give the students answers.  They would with the students in small groups to help them learn the way to do the work on their own, using AVID strategies.   *
