Beaufort Human Library Book Application

Call for “Books” for the Second Edition of the Beaufort Human Library

The Beaufort Human Library is an opportunity to check out a person instead of a book and learn how their experiences may change your ideas about unexplored stereotypes that we all carry. We are looking for individuals who have experienced stereotypes, prejudices, etc. to volunteer as Books for the Beaufort Human Library.  The purpose of this project is to promote dialogue, reduce prejudices, and encourage understanding.

Here’s how it works: The Beaufort Human Library is a mobile library set up as a space for dialogue and interaction. Visitors (Readers) are given the opportunity to speak informally with “people on loan” (Books), this group being extremely varied in age, gender, and cultural background. During this event, Readers are given a catalog of the Books in the library.  Once a Book is chosen, the Reader and Book have an opportunity for dialogue and understanding. We hope that once Readers have “read” a Book or two, they will examine their own stereotypes by engaging/unjudging and connecting in a positive, supportive manner.

Do you think your story is a good read? If so, please apply below to participate as a Book in our Beaufort Human Library. Before applying, please see this short (2-minute) video about our original Beaufort Human Library project: https://youtu.be/dDDI4fBFcgY

Our next Beaufort Human Library will be held on the afternoon of Sunday, November 13, 2022. Location to be determined.
