High School Session #2 with Bruce MacMillan - A New Look at the Unit Circle

Understanding the unit circle is one of the most basic skills of trigonometry. (Notice I said “understanding”, not “memorizing”!) In this session we will see a way of teaching the unit circle so your students will have a complete understanding of where the values come from. No angles involved! Ideal for trigonometry and Advanced Algebra classes. Participants should bring a graphing calculator with them.

Presenter: Bruce MacMillan a retired mathematics teacher who has taught high school for 30 years, taught at the University of Colorado at Denver for 7 years, and taught at the University of Arizona for 13 years. He has presented at both local conferences (MEAD for 15 years) and national conferences. As a consultant for Texas Instruments, teaching the proper use of graphing calculator in the high school curriculum from first year Algebra through Advanced Placement Calculus, he has written and taught workshops in all parts of the country. As one participant said:” After attending a session presented by Bruce, you always leave with new ideas and ‘hands on’ activities that you can use in your classroom”.
