WGT Holiday Celebration with Tex Thompson December 13, 2021, 6 PM - 8:30 PM
IT'S A WGT HOLIDAY CELEBRATION!

The holiday season is a festive, magical time. This month we have a special treat for the WGT writing community.

Join us Monday, December 13, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM for the WGT Holiday Party!

We'll meet at the Richardson Public Library for the first time in nearly two years. The Holiday Party seems like the perfect occasion to get back to seeing each other in person.

The night will include food, beverages, and door prizes. We will also announce the winners of the Annual Kathryn McClatchy Flash Fiction Contest. Please plan to be with us. It'll be so good to see you again.

You have a great story idea, but the beginning is a traffic jam? You've been told there is no one right way to begin a story, set the setting, or develop the world you've created inside your head, but you seem to be finding all the wrong ones. Maybe the "right one" was sucked down the rabbit hole of research.

It's a hard truth every writer knows: a good story needs a great setting, and many a diligent storyteller has gotten lost in the details. But it doesn't have to be that way! Whether you're adapting the past, delving into distant regions of the present day, or conjuring other worlds altogether, some principles of good story-grounding are universal – and you can start applying them right away. Come learn the secrets of crafting immersive, dynamic settings – real or imaginary! – that your fans will want to explore for years to come.

ADRIANNE "Tex" THOMPSON is a licensed locksmith, egregiously enthusiastic editor, and professional ruckus-raiser. She is the author of Children of the Drought, an internationally-published epic fantasy Western series from Solaris, and an instructor for Writing Workshops Dallas and' chief instigator' of WORD – Writers Organizations' Round Dallas. Now she's blazing a trail through conferences, workshops, and conventions around the country – as an endlessly energetic, catastrophically cheerful one-woman stampede. Find her online at thetexfiles.com and wordwriters.org!
