Since the summer of 2017, RISE trainers across the state have been providing K-2 and 3-6 RISE Academy training, stand-alone days on the science of reading, and follow-up coaching. To connect the science of reading to writing, DESE is excited to partner for a third year with a team from The Writing Revolution (TWR) to offer a synchronous course called Advancing Thinking Through Writing I for all content teachers in grades K-12. This course introduces participants to the Hochman method, an explicit set of sequenced strategies for teaching expository writing that can be integrated into any content.

Training spots are limited, but districts may request enough spots to implement the training this year. This may include any content teachers in grades K-12.  A district must send at least one administrator or specialist with their teachers if it is the district's first year enrolled in the training.

Specialists could include but are not limited to instructional facilitators, Gifted and Talented Specialists, Content Area Leaders, and Special Education Advisors.

An Administrator could include but is not limited to a principal, assistant principal, curriculum coordinator, or program administrator.
