Tree-Ring Unit (Geography)
*** This tour has now reached capacity - if you would like to be added to the waiting list anyway, please submit your information below and we will get back to you in case any spaces open up! ***

Join us in the newly established Tree-Ring Unit (TRU) at the Department of Geography to gain first insights into the various aspects of modern tree-ring research, including wood anatomy. Guided by Alma Piermattei, Paul J. Krusic and Ulf Büntgen (as well as Alex Kirdyanov and Alan Crivellaro), you will see how different tree-ring parameters are developed to facilitate a deeper understanding of past and ongoing interactions between the environment and plant growth. During this lab visit, two foci will illuminate the development of annually resolved and absolutely dated climate reconstructions for the Common Era, as well as the additional, intra-annual information obtained from state-of-the-art wood anatomical studies. Considering Cambridge’s TRU as an interdisciplinary hub, we look forward to welcoming colleagues from many disciplines, such as earth sciences, plant sciences, archaeology and biogeochemistry.
