North Shore Young Civic Forum Application Form
***APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED!***

What would it take to make the North Shore more liveable? What role do municipalities play in affecting change? What can we, as young adults, do to have our voices heard?

The way that decisions are made in cities can often seem confusing or exclusive, and that’s where we we come in! This Spring, the North Shore Community Resources' Democracy Café initiative in coordination with CityHive is launching the third cohort of the North Shore Young Civic Forum (aka the Forum) to build young residents’ civic literacy, participation and leadership on the North Shore. In this cohort program, you’ll learn about how cities work, get connected to council members, city staff, and stakeholders in the community, learn from experienced advocates on how to push your ideas forward, develop collaborative recommendations for how to make the North Shore better for young people, and advocate for your solutions with local government and beyond. You’ll also meet other young people living or working in your community who hold a variety of perspectives and passions.

The program will run from March to June 2022 through a mixture of in-person and virtual sessions. You’ll meet with your cohort each week (usually on Wednesday evenings), aside from brief pauses in April for students' exams. You don’t need any prior civic knowledge to apply - the only criteria is that you live, work or study on the North Shore and are ages 18-39. Our sessions will start with the basics and build from there. By the end of the Forum, you will have worked with other young adults and developed a project that either demonstrates what changes you would like to see in the North Shore as a result of the 2022 municipal elections or how municipal voter engagement can be improved in the North Shore ahead of the elections. You will also have developed a plan of action with your group of how you could best advocate for your project ideas once the Forum has ended. The program is completely free, and there are financial and technological supports available if needed.

If you have any questions or accessibility requests, please get in touch with us at faiz.jaffer@nscr.ca or rowan@cityhive.ca. Application deadline has been extended to Sunday, March 6th, 2022 at 11:59PM.
