The TA First Translation Prize 2023
An annual prize (£2,000) for debut literary translations into English of prose works. The prize is shared between the translator and their editor.

The TA First Translation Prize is for a debut literary translation into English published in the UK or Ireland. The Prize was established in 2017 and generously endowed by Daniel Hahn, with support from the British Council and Hawthornden Literary Retreat.

ENTRY DEADLINE: FRIDAY 31 MARCH 2023

CRITERIA FOR ENTRY
1. Publication date in English, in the UK or Ireland (or widely distributed) – between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023
2. Prize does not accept poetry submissions
3. Must be the first solo book-length translation by the translator (co-translators are not eligible)
4. No self-published or e-book only titles

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Current employees or members of the SoA Management Committee may not apply for any of the grants and prizes administered by the Society of Authors.

The decision of the judges is final and they reserve the right not to award the Prize if, in their opinion, no works entered reach a sufficiently high standard. Judges may call in books if they so wish.

1. Submissions must be made by the publisher.
2. Once this form is completed please send FIVE copies of the translation and ONE copy of the original work (all non-returnable) to:
