The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is launching its first ever summer program series for elementary school children in the Triangle area. Every Tuesday in June and July from 11 am-noon, activities will be offered that focus on learning about artwork through the Gregg Museum's exhibitions. Sessions will be tailored to specific age groups, and children can participate in hands-on art projects while learning about different artists and types of art. Registration is required prior to attending each program and parent/guardian supervision is required for the duration of the session.
Session 1-3 (June 4, 11, and 18) will be for kindergarten-1st grade children - Children and caretakers will learn about Vollis Simpson’s whirligigs through careful looking, a scavenger hunt, and an art making activity that children will take home at the end of the session.
Sessions 4-6 (June 25, July 2, and 9) will be for 2nd-3rd grade children - Children will spend time in the galleries learning about Haitian flags through careful looking, observational prompts, and engage in an art making activity that children will take home at the end of the session. Sorry, Session 4 is filled.
Sessions 7-9 (July 16, 23, and 30) will be for 4th-5th grade children - Children will spend time in the galleries learning about Indonesian shadow puppets through careful looking, observational prompts, and engage in an art making activity that children will take home at the end of the session.
Select which session your child(ren) will be attending. For each age-specific class, the activity will be the same. Please note that due to limited spots on each day, each session will repeat activities, so attendees only need to sign up for one.
Please note that sessions 1-3 will require parent/guardians to be physically present in the room with children, while sessions 4-9 must remain on the museum premise but not in the program space.
Please fill out this form again for any other sessions (for a different age group) that you would like to attend.
