Girl Scouts--Request for a Family or Troop Tree

Have you completed the Trees Badge, Breathe Journey or a Senior journey? Are you ready to plant and grow a tree, and care for it as a troop or family? This could be a "troop tree," a place for memories and a future legacy! A recent donation provides for trees to be purchased by a Girl Scout family to plant in their back or front yard, who is willing to care for the tree--starting with watering weekly for three years.

Families approved to "get and grow a tree" will be notified by email, pick up the tree at Walter Andersen Nursery in Old Town when notified, follow instructions on how to plant a tree, and invite the troop to help enjoy this tree!

Walter Andersen Nursery offers Kate Sessions Commitment certified ornamental shade and native trees at their Old Town San Diego location on 3642 Enterprise St. Look for the Kate Sessions Commitment sign and display of 5-gallon trees. Questions? contact anne@katestrees.org

Trees need to be selected for the size of the planting area. Trees must be planted in the ground, not in containers or other pots. What size tree do you need for your site? *

Please indicate tree preference, based on size. Descriptions of each tree are found at https://selectree.calpoly.edu/search/ . *

Small tree: Bronze loquat, Catalina cherry (native), Crape myrtle, Eastern redbud, or Indian Hawthorn

Medium tree: Gold medallion, Mimosa, Southern Magnolia, or Strawberry tree

Tree for large yard: Chinese elm, Engelmann oak (native), or southern Magnolia

Wait! We're not ready for a tree, but please offer a troop tree again in late 2021

Automatic irrigation, that has a "zone" to water trees separately from the lawn
