Dorinda has been supporting home educating families for many, many years and has loads of wonderful tips and tricks to share. The aim of these seminars is to support and equip parents to teach their children the basics in core areas of learning with confidence.

Dorinda Duthie is a qualified primary school teacher and a trained SPELD tutor. She and her husband homeschooled their son for seven years, and Dorinda is passionate about helping parents to homeschool their own children. Dorinda currently works from home teaching remedial reading and maths on an individual basis to students of all ages.

In 2021, Dorinda will be offering 1 to 3 seminars per term (most at the HASCA Hub, others from her home in Birkenhead) to support parents and help them get started with homeschooling their own children & continue confidently with their homeschooling journey. The seminars will include suggested resources and proven teaching strategies aimed primarily at those homeschooling primary school-aged children. We invite you!

TERM TWO 2021 SEMINARS AT THE HASCA HUB

At each seminar, there will be a handout containing teaching ideas, book suggestions and information about places to visit.

SEMINAR 1) VOLCANOES - Thursday, May 13th, 2021, 1pm at the HASCA Hub

A handout will be included with a unit study and map showing the locations of Auckland’s volcanoes.
There will also be a poster outlining the different kinds of volcanoes available at the seminar.

Did you know that Auckland is built on over fifty volcanoes?
At this seminar we will be finding out about different kinds of volcanoes, where they are in Auckland, famous historic volcanic eruptions around the world, Civil Defence precautions and places to visit.

Did you know that there are two extinct volcanoes within a 15 minute walk from the HASCA Hub, at North Shore YMCA?

Have you seen the castle and sat in the giant’s chair made from volcanic rock? (Both of these landmarks are located a short dive and walk away.)

Why are so many of the rock pools between Takapuna Beach and Milford Beach round in shape?
