AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness in a global society.  AVID is a national College Readiness Program that seeks underrepresented students who are motivated to do rigorous coursework necessary to become college-ready.  AVID students enroll in the AVID Elective throughout junior high school to receive the academic and personal support needed for high school and college success.

AVID class is not a place to just do homework. AVID students do their homework at home like everyone else. In AVID class students must do four main things: (1) Practice skills to be a better student (2) Learn about college and careers (3) Create weekly goals which may be signed by teachers and parents (4) Participate in AVID tutorial sessions in small groups. *During AVID tutorial sessions, you work with other students, college tutors, and the AVID teacher to become a better learner and to better understand material from your academic classes. *
