Hear Your Song — Hear Your Child's Song Come to Life!

In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, Hear Your Song seeks to empower and give voice to children who are currently hospitalized for any reason, sick/immunocompromised at home, or isolated from their loved ones.

Hear Your Song was founded in 2014 at Yale University with the mission of helping hospitalized children express themselves through lyrics and music. With the help of Hear Your Song, kids write their own song lyrics which are then set to music and recorded by professional musicians using the young lyricist's requests for genre, tempo, and instrumentation. Hear Your Song has partnered with hospitals in New Haven, Yonkers, and throughout NYC. Over the past six years, HYS has recorded nearly 100 songs by kids ages 5-18, most of which can be heard at www.hearyoursong.org.

Hear Your Song songs can be about ANYTHING — literally, anything!. We've recorded songs about family, about Sonic the Hedgehog, about karate, about singing, about slime. Hear Your Song is an opportunity for your child to express themselves however they want to and have their words lifted up in song.

In order to accommodate the current need for social distancing, we have created three ways for families to collaborate with Hear Your Song.

OPTION ONE *Recommended!*
COLLABORATE WITH A HEAR YOUR SONG COMPOSER!
Send us a bit of info about your child – name, age, and some interests – and we will match you within 48 hours with one of our incredible HYS composers! The composer will send a personalized video with tips and tricks for writing song lyrics, including ideas based on your child's interests, to help get the ball rolling. Using these resources, your child can write lyrics and send them back to the artist, along with some musical suggestions.  The composer will send back a musical demo for feedback, and will incorporate that feedback into the final recording! You will receive your child's recorded song digitally soon after submitting your final feedback.

OPTION TWO *Speedy Songwriting!*
YOUR CHILD WRITES THE WORDS, WE MAKE THE MUSIC!
Your child can write lyrics independently and you can submit them below along with your child's request for musical genre, instrumentation, and tempo. Or, if your child has some writing already that they would like to turn into a song, that can be submitted as well.  You will receive your child's recorded song digitally soon after submitting your child's lyrics. (If your child has a melody in mind, you can submit audio files by e-mail as well to hys@hearyoursong.org.)

OPTION THREE *Potpourri!*
GIVE US SOME DETAILS, WE'LL BRING THE SONG TO LIFE!  
If the first two options are not possible, in place of song lyrics, you can:
* Write your own lyrics for a song FOR your child which we'll set to music
* Submit ideas in list or paragraph form about what your child would like their song to be about
* Share details about your child's interests, hobbies, passions, etc. and we'll turn that into a song
