Beta Reader Response Form
First, thank you so much for reading my work and providing feedback. Your comments and reactions help so much in the drafting process to improve the work. Please feel free to give completely honest answers and don't worry about holding back for fear of hurting feelings. As a writer, I view this as a work in progress that needs revision, but I can't always anticipate how readers will connect (or not) with the writing and story. Your comments will be crucial in my revision and improvement process, so, if anything, err on the side of criticism.

Were the first ten pages engaging enough to keep you interested in reading the rest? If you were not completely invested within those first ten pages, what was it that turned you off, or what were you expecting that you found missing? *
Can you recall any places where you found yourself losing interest, skimming pages, or wanting to put the book down? *
In your opinion, what motivates the main characters? What do they want that makes them act the way they do? If that's not clear, feel free to say so. *
At what point were you confused about anything in the story? About what was happening? About what the characters were doing or why? Or about the overall meaning? *
Where did you see yourself in the story? Which character, scene, setting, or emotion did you connect with the most? If there wasn't any connection for you, feel free to say so. *
At any point did you get confused about where the action was taking place, or about the time frame, or anything else related to setting? *
Whenever there was dialogue, did the character's speech seem realistic or true to their personalities? Or were there places where the dialogue seemed fake or hard to understand or follow? *
Did you notice any "plot holes" or places where the chain of events seemed to break down because something didn't seem right? Did anything strike you as impossible, even within the sometimes supernatural parameters of the story? *
Was there a scene that particularly moved you, or a passage that struck you as particularly good writing? Or was there any part of the story that was particularly memorable, that stuck with you? Was there any part that made you wish the whole story was "like this"? If not, feel free to say so. *
Was the ending satisfying? Was there any element of the ending that made you feel cheated or left some conflicts unresolved? *
After reading the entire thing (and again, thank you so much), what would you say was the theme of the story, the overall meaning of the book? What is the novel "about," in a more philosophical, "big picture" way? If that's not clear, feel free to say so. *
