Integration of Early Career Archaeologists: Contract, Commercial, Consulting and Specialists
This is the second survey of the Early Careers in Archaeology task force on behalf of the European Association of Archaeologists. For the results of the first survey on academic research in archaeology, please follow this link.  The first survey identified Early Career Archaeologists as professionals who have not yet held a position of responsibility or authority within their institution, often marked by tenure but also accepted self-identification, i.e. if you feel like an ECA, then you are one.  This survey is asking archaeologists to self-identify if they feel they are ECAs or not.

Although this survey aims to make an inventory of challenges and opportunities of Early Career Archaeologists (ECAs) working in a wide range of positions outside of academic archaeology, it is not limited only to ECAs. We welcome responses from archaeologists at all stages of their career to help provide context for understanding who ECAs are and what challenges they might be facing.

We’d like to hear from ECAs about their experiences of pursuing a career and gain insight on the work you do, your type of employment, mobility, and other topics that will help us better understand the sector. The focus of this survey is on ECA experiences but we welcome responses from all archaeologists and from those who do not work in traditional academic settings in archaeology which might include, but are not limited to: commercial, contract, consulting, heritage, museums, and other specialist fields including post-excavation and associated laboratory or desk work as well as those who formerly worked in these settings but have left archaeology.

If you have any question, please feel free to contact the ECA Community using this e-mail address: ecataskforce@outlook.com
