Virtual Robotics Workshop
Workshop Information:
This season Santa needs some help delivering presents!  A 2-day robotics workshop will prepare all inquiring elves (students) with the necessary skills to complete this task! Taught by the Sharon Robotics Teams, elves will learn how to program a LEGO EV3 Mindstorm Robot and have some fun delivering gifts over Christmas break!

Age:
Students must currently be in 4th thru 6th grade to participate. Applicants can be from any school district in the Mercer/Lawrence/Trumbull County Region.

Time:
Workshop will run on December 28th and 29th from Noon - 3 PM on both days. Prior to the workshop, students will watch a brief introduction video.

Location of Pickup/Drop off of Materials:
Case Avenue Elementary School, 36 Case Avenue, Sharon.  
Doors for pickup/drop off materials will be in the driveway loop located near the playground (across from St. Joseph Church).
Pick up of materials:  Sunday, December 27th anytime from Noon - 2 PM
Drop off of materials:  Wednesday, December 30th anytime from Noon - 2PM

Cost: Tuition fee is $40. After being accepted, Tuition is due when materials are picked up or it can be mailed to the address listed below.  If payment is not received by the deadline, acceptance to the workshop will be denied.  Cash or check is acceptable.  Checks are to be made payable to the “Sharon Robotics Boosters” and are due by/on December 27, 2020.  All proceeds will benefit the purchase of a robot for the Buhl Club and additional proceeds will benefit the robotics teams.

Workshop Curriculum:
Participants will have a two-day opportunity to program an EV3 Mindstorm Robot.  Students will challenged to guide Santa through the town delivering gifts! Students will focus on beginner robot behaviors and no prior knowledge is needed to participate.  Lessons to program a robot to move forward, turn, and use of sensors will be just a few highlights of the two days!   Students will follow the engineering process and program a robot to solve challenges.  

Virtual Platform:
Participants will need to download Zoom and EV3 programming software (both free) after being accepted into the workshop.  Apple computers and chrome books are not compatible for the programming software. Microsoft based computers are compatible.  Campers will receive a Zoom invitation on December 27th for the week of the workshop.

Instructor:
The workshop will be taught by Mr. Tomko, a sixth-grade teacher and robotics coach, and members from the Sharon Robotics Teams. Members from the robotics teams will include students from 6th-12th grades who have experience/ knowledge in programming/robotics.  

Deadline to Apply:
Online application submissions will be accepted until December 24 , 2020.  However, please be aware, this workshop will fill quickly.  Students will be accepted to the camp on a first come, first serve basis – as there are 14 spots available.  If the workshop fills to capacity, a wait list will be used for interested participants. Students who apply will be notified of acceptance status or wait list status within 24 hours of application being received.
