This mentorship is an opportunity for mid-career and established artists from underrepresented communities to learn from skilled professionals in the bookbinding, letterpress, and artists book fields. Mentees will work closely with their mentor who will provide personalized guidance tailored to their individual artistic goals and needs. Priority will be given to applicants who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color).
Applicants should review the mentor bios and areas of expertise to identify which mentor/week best aligns with their desired project/skills, then apply for that particular mentor/week.
Work samples and a CV must be emailed to workshops@sfcb.org. Please share ten images of your work (each no larger than 1MB), named as follows: your last name.name of piece.image number. In a separate email, attach your CV an image list corresponding to the uploaded images 1-10 with title, date, size, media, and a short description and/or conceptual intent.
Mentees are responsible for managing their own travel and lodging arrangements, budget, materials costs, and any additional expenses; they will receive $2500 when they arrive at SFCB.
Applicants must reside outside the nine counties of the metropolitan San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma); be over 21 years old; and be a permanent resident or citizen of the US to receive the stipend.
