Expressions of Interest - Aquatic Cultures and Digital Environmental Humanities (ACDEH) - 9-10 August 2019, Trinity Long Room Hub
The relationship between water and culture is a vast societal challenge that dissolves discipline, time, and place, requiring a unified and nuanced response. The digitally-assisted and augmented environmental humanities has a growing role in a globally-informed Irish response to living in aquatic cultures at a time of complexity, working at the joining of disciplines such as digital humanities, geography, history, literature, philosophy and the performing arts.

Aquatic Cultures and the Digital Environmental Humanities (ACDEH) is a confluence of scholars and stakeholders working at the intersection of digital methodologies, water studies and environmental scholarship and coming together to talk, to learn from each other, and to shape a community of actors pooling resources for Ireland.

The overall aim of this two-day Irish Research Council-funded knowledge exchange for impact collaboration is to bring together projects and scholars expert in diverse but complementary disciplinary approaches to studying water and aquatic culture through a combination of the digital and environmental humanities. The event will be hosted at the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute at Trinity College Dublin, and will bring together the leaders of the rich digital humanities and environmental humanities research in Ireland by merging accumulated disciplinary knowledge.

This form is an expression of interest. Our goal is to gather a group of scholars, stakeholders and other water experts interested in meeting and sharing their ideas at the intersection of water, culture, digital tools and approaches and the humanities. As a result, it is important to invite a balanced and diverse group of attendees. Priority will be given to those based in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, but others may apply.

There will be a selection process, after which the organisers will get in touch to make an offer to attend.

Acceptance includes free attendance of the two-day event on the 9th and 10th of August, 2019, lunch, and refreshments. There will also be an optional conference dinner on the Friday (at own cost).

Note: There are two bursaries of €250 available for those who are unfunded, unwaged, or in precarious employment traveling to Dublin from the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. There are also a limited number of ground transport cost reimbursements (up to €40 per person) available for train travel or mileage.
