ALL ABSENCES MUST BE SUBMITTED ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE EVENT for the absence to be considered excused.  All performances and rehearsals are required. MISSING A SCHEDULED PERFORMANCE or REHEARSAL WILL RESULT IN A “0” GRADE FOR THAT PERFORMANCE OR REHEARSAL.  

Excused absences include:  Personal Illness, Family Weddings, Deaths in the Family, Honor Group Performances,College visits that CANNOT be scheduled or another time.  In the case of illness a doctor’s excuse must be submitted to the music office within one week of the absence.

Pioneer Pride members are expected to attend all performances and rehearsals. The performance and rehearsal schedule for each academic year is printed in the Band Handbook and on the Kirkwood High School Performing arts calendar.  

 Please do not schedule anything on the day of a required performance or rehearsal after the KHS Band Handbook has been published and handed out.
Be sure to share your BAND SCHEDULE with your employer as soon as you get it or as soon as you start work.
A good employer will value your commitment to your schoolwork, as long as you communicate in a timely
manner.  WORK CONFLICTS ARE NOT EXCUSED.

Kirkwood High School strongly encourages students to be involved in a variety of activities. In all cases, good communication with directors, coaches, and sponsors will alleviate concerns and questions of the intent and commitment to the group when a conflict arises. While the Band Staff will compromise a portion of rehearsal or performance of a scheduled activity when conflicts arise, the student and coach are also expected to work out a compromise to meet the expectations of both groups. In all cases, a band PERFORMANCE TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER PRACTICE OR REHEARSAL. Likewise, an athletic MATCH/GAME/PERFORMANCE TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER BAND REHEARSAL. When a required event coincides with a band performance, coaches, directors, and students will always find a solution that is best for the team/band/individual.  1 WEEK PRIOR NOTICE MUST BE GIVEN TO BE CONSIDERED EXCUSED.
