Have you helped create or run crowdsourcing, citizen science, citizen history, digital / online volunteer projects, programmes, tools or platforms with cultural heritage collections? We're seeking short case studies related to these topics.
We're asking two key questions: what do you wish you'd known at the start? In other words, what advice would you give people as they start out? And, would you do anything differently with more time or resources? In other words, what's on your wish list if you had more time or money - new features, better processes, or something else entirely?
This survey closes on March 1, 2021.
We hope that sharing case studies online and in our book will provide other researchers with a wide range of examples and contacts, inspire other practitioners, provide hints for tackling common challenges, and generally showcase the ingenuity, diversity and thoughtfulness of people working on digitally-enabled cultural participation.
We're keen to hear from a range of project stakeholders, from volunteers to funders, developers to community managers. If you're not sure if someone else from your project has responded, please go ahead and respond anyway - multiple perspectives are helpful! You can also submit more than one case study. In some cases, we may be in contact to ask more detailed questions.
The Collective Wisdom project is led by Mia Ridge (British Library), Meghan Ferriter (Library of Congress) and Sam Blickhan (Zooniverse). We aim to capture the collective wisdom of researchers and practitioners in crowdsourcing, citizen history, citizen science and public / community online participation in research with cultural heritage collections. Funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), we're collaborating on a book, white paper and website (
https://collectivewisdomproject.org.uk).
