Do you want to help others and make the world a better place? Then the Effective Altruism Introductory Fellowship is the perfect place for you🤗.

TL;DR: The Effective Altruism Intro Fellowship is a 4-week program with weekly discussion groups, workshops, socials and 1-on-1s. In the process, we will engage with the question, "How can we do the most good?" from a theoretical and practical perspective. The Fellowship takes place online or hybrid. In the hybrid version, we offer weekly in-person discussion groups in a number of cities. The Fellowship will take place from mid-May (~ 23.05) to the end of June (~ 24.06). 0. Introduction🚀
"Improving the world" is easier said than done. Questions quickly arise such as "Where should we start?" or "What will really make a difference? If you look at past successes, you see that some ways have made an outstanding difference. Examples include the eradication of smallpox, the abolition of slavery or the Green Revolution. However, finding such outstanding ways is often difficult and often requires the consideration of multiple factors.

The Effective Altruism Intro Fellowship will help you identify particularly promising problem areas and interventions. In close exchange with other Fellows, you will develop ideas on how you can be more effective in improving the world.
1. Contents🧐
During the four weeks we will cover...
- the prioritisation of the biggest global problems of our time,
- different ways of working on these problems,
- ethical career choices,
- the fundamentals of rationality, ethics, productive discussion and other methods.

In the Fellowship, we transfer basic theoretical considerations directly into practical implementation. During workshops and special events you will apply certain tools in practice and thus directly influence the world.

There will be plenty of space to interact with other Fellows and facilitators and apply these reflections and discussions to your everyday life, your giving, your engagement or your professional decisions. In addition, the Fellowship offers the opportunity for in-depth 1-on-1 coaching, selected materials and professional networking.

You will have the opportunity to shape the Fellowship. We are looking forward to learning new things with you💡
2. Targeted audience🔎
We are looking for people who...
- are motivated to apply critical thinking, evidence and rationality to questions of morality and altruism.
- already have an early understanding of Effective Altruism.*

*[If you don't know the EA yet, no problem, then this TED Talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyprXhvGVYk and this text https://www.effectivealtruism.org/articles/introduction-to-effective-altruism/ offers an introduction].
3. Testimonials📊
"Through the EA Fellowship, I not only got an overview of various EA-relevant topics, but also had the opportunity to question my own perspective on these topics in the many discussions. I was particularly enthusiastic about the group dynamics and the willingness to support, both on the part of the moderators and the other fellows. Even after completing the Fellowship, I am still in contact with some of the Fellows and we have been meeting regularly for Career Planning Sessions ever since. Overall, I feel part of the EA community since the Fellowship."
- Helena, Bioinformatics [Masters]

4. Time frame📅
The Fellowship will start in the 20th calendar week [16.05 - 22.05] with a kickoff event and will run over 4 weeks until approximately 24.06.2022. The exact dates of the weekly discussion groups, workshops and socials will be "doodled" before the Fellowship starts. This will allow us to find a suitable time slot for everyone.
5. Time commitment⌚
Discussion groups, consisting of 3 to 5 Fellows and a mod, meet weekly. 90 minutes of reading time can be roughly estimated for the weekly texts or resources. The meetings in the discussion groups also take about 90 minutes. In total, you should plan with at least 3 hours per week. The weekly discussion groups will take place online or, in certain cities, offline in person.

In addition, there will be a giving game and various socialising events during the four weeks.

At the socials, we get to know each other better in a pub quiz, exchange ideas in a productive disagreement session or go to an EA Germany event together, for example. Participation in the socials is voluntary.
