WCROC Horticulture Student Worker

Please complete this form to apply to be a Student Worker at the West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) Horticulture Display Garden for the summer of 2024.

The WCROC is part of the University of Minnesota's College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences. The WCROC conducts applied research in the areas of agronomy, dairy, horticulture, renewable energy, and swine.

The Horticulture Display Garden spans nearly 4-acres and showcases thousands of annual flowers during the growing season. The vision for the Garden is to provide horticultural research, offer educational experiences, and inspiration for those who visit.

Qualifications
- Required: Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student;  
Ability to work in a wide range of outdoor conditions;
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions;
- Current drivers license required;
- Capable to work in a team setting with coworkers but also individually as needed.
About the Job
Duties and Responsibilities: 

- Assist in care of plant trials and landscape areas under the direction of our Researcher II;
- Participate in greenhouse care by preparing and maintaining growing supplies; 
- Assist in care of research and display garden plant materials by watering, fertilizing, weeding;
- Assist in plot harvest by hand harvesting and weighing of experimental plots; 
- Operate power equipment as required on plots and grounds and perform daily required maintenance;
- Assist in maintenance of work areas or buildings and observe safety regulations and procedures; 
Other duties as assigned;
- More than one position available.

Hours and Pay:
- 40 hours per week
$15 per hour, paid bi-weekly
