Diversity and Inclusion in Comics and Illustration
The Monash Drawing Club is hosting a panel featuring several artists and illustrators discussing the importance of diversity in comics and illustration. Artists will share their own work processes in research, writing and depiction of people, as well as their insight as to how students can be better at being more inclusive in their work. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions and mingle with the panelists after the event.

Location: Building G1.02, Monash University Caulfield Campus.
Date: Tuesday, 8th October 2019
Time: 1-3pm (2:00pm onwards will be time to mingle and chat further in the foyer)
Price: Free
Refreshments: Various non-alcoholic drinks and nibbles will be provided.

Topics to be covered:
- The importance of research and the processes undertaken when representing a culture that is not your own
- How to navigate race, gender, sexuality, religion, ethnicity in art
- Responsibility in editing and curating diverse stories
- Appropriation VS Inspiration in art: Drawing inspiration respectfully
- Avoiding stereotypes and faithful representation
- How to be an effective ally through art
