All students must abide by the HCPS Code of Student Conduct (English); (Spanish). Students who do not adhere to the Code of Student Conduct will be referred to their principal for further disciplinary action and may lose access to the Design Studio.

The office number for the EDO Design Studio is: (804) 781-1938. Please know that the Design Studio is located under ground level in the basement of The Oak at 15 S. Oak Avenue, Highland Springs, VA 23075 (former Highland Springs High School building). Cellular service is little to none, so this office number is the only means of direct communication and will be monitored by EDO Staff from 3:30-7:30pm, Monday-Thursday.

SCHEDULE

The Design Studio operates weekly, Monday-Thursday from 4-7pm and will follow the approved HCPS calendar during the school year (a summer schedule will be announced later). The Design Studio will follow the decision of HCPS' leadership in cases of inclement weather:

Mondays = high school students
[All Together] Tuesdays = families and community
Wednesdays = middle school (majority) students
Thursdays = specialty groups: McKinney-Vento, Connect/SMART, Equity Ambassadors

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

Understanding that students may arrive and leave at various times, please call the office number so that EDO Staff can escort the student through "Door 39". The cut off for arrival time will be 5:00pm. Students will wrap up with their projects and tidy the Makerspaces at approximately 6:45pm. A general dismissal will begin at 7pm. If students are being picked-up from the Design Studio, arrangements are to be made from 7-7:20pm. The Design Studio will close promptly at 7:30pm. Please know that HCPS does NOT provide transportation to/from the Design Studio.

SAFETY

Caution must be used at ALL TIMES as Makerspaces may have but aren't limited to: sharp objects, poisoning and/heat warnings, and heavy/small/delicate and/fragile tools/supplies and/machines. Makerspaces should be properly maintained by cleaning and reorganizing each Makerspace area best to its original condition before dismissal. Access to the Design Studio may be revoked if not properly cared for. Each Makerspace will also hold its own set of guidelines and expectations.

CAPACITY

The Design Studio and its Makerspaces have a *maximum capacity variable of 15-25 occupants. If one suite reaches capacity, the second optional selection may be defaulted to:

~15 students total in the Design Studio on Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays:

Suite B1 = 3 student maximum
Suite B2 = 3 student maximum
Suite B3 = 3 student maximum
Suite B4 = 3 student maximum
Suite B5 = 3 student maximum

~23 persons total in the Design Studio on [All Together] Tuesdays:

Suite B1 = *5 person maximum
Suite B2 = *5 person maximum
Suite B3 = *3 person maximum
Suite B4 = *5 person maximum
Suite B5 = *5 person maximum

To allow other students the opportunity to utilize the Design Studio and to ensure the safety and comfortability of all, no more than two days can be selected during weekly sign-up. Signing up occurs on a "first come, first serve basis." Students will be denied access to utilize the Design Studio for a month on the third "no show" occurrence from their confirmed day(s) of the week.

PROJECT INTEREST

Each Makerspace's project time varies to where several sessions may be needed upon completion. Uncompleted projects will be stored in a separate area of the Design Studio. All finalized projects must be reviewed and approved by EDO Staff before getting uploaded, published, or leaving the Design Studio. Students are limited to two projects within each Makerspace.
