Mobile Technology Partner to Support Youth: Nov. 5 Thursday 17:00 - 18:15 pm CET (8am PST)

Play for Peace (international NGO) and Kikori (startup edtech company) came together in 2018 with a shared version for building peace and democratizing access to experiential education. Since that time, they have co-created a mobile and browser based application that supports educators, facilitators and peace-builders in 21, primarily post-conflict, countries with experiential and social emotional activities, knowledge sharing and networking. During this interactive workshop, attendees will gain insight into proven experiential and SEL techniques that are shared in the application as well as a reflection on the successes and challenges of creating a for-profit, nonprofit collaboration. Attendees will also preview the evaluation and data collection tools that are being built, together with the University of New Hampshire, and incorporated into the application.  The activities found in the application are categorized by learning outcomes including SEL, 21st Century and Sustainable Development Goals. Individuals and institutions will be invited to download and use the activities and application.  

Speakers

Bryn Lottig is an experienced instructor and facilitator in the education, adventure, and outdoor industries. Her skills include Wilderness Medicine, Challenge Course Management, Corporate Training, and Adventure Education. She received her Master's degree in Adventure Based Experiential Education from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Although she has over a decade of experience working with youth, she really refined her facilitation skills by working in the leadership Program at Camp Manito-Wish YMCA for the last 10 years. She lives with her husband, two children and works as an Adventure Program Coordinator for an EL (Expeditionary Learning) School in Northern Wisconsin.

Kendra Bostick is the co-founder of Kikori, a digital platform that supports educators and facilitators in implementing experiential and social emotional learning. Kendra began her PhD studies in Education at the University of New Hampshire in 2019 with a focus on how experiential education impacts academics and wellbeing. In 2017, Kendra completed a Masters degree in Education focused on how to use Adventure Programming and Experiential Education to maximize meaningful learning within the education system. Following her undergraduate and MSW degrees from the University of Michigan, Kendra worked as a School Social Worker for six years and as a therapist within inpatient child and adolescent behavioral health units for two years. Kendra has lived, worked and volunteered in cities around the world including England, Thailand, and Chile.  

Sarah Gough brings over 20 years of facilitation experience in the not-for-profit sector and 10 years as Executive Director of Play for Peace, working with teams and organizations from 30+ different countries. Skilled in solution-focused strategies, Sarah infuses compassion and joy into teams working in the most challenging of areas and topics. Grounded in a systems thinking focused MSW in interpersonal relations from the University of Michigan, she has a passion for mentoring change-makers and bridging life-changing work on the ground with a vision that is strategic, collaborative and sustainable. Sarah's expertise includes supporting organizational development, leadership and volunteerism through the use of experiential learning techniques. She has published field research in the Journal for Experiential Education.
