IMAGE Nomination - 2023-2024
The IMAGE (Identified Members of Academically Gifted Education) program serves academically talented students in the 3rd and 4th grades who live in or attend a public or private school in the Grandville school district.

Students in the program work on projects that incorporate higher level thinking, research, and technology skills. The program is intended to serve the needs of these students by offering engaging units that challenge them while providing opportunities to both study independently in self-selected areas of interest, and interact and cooperatively learn with other students of similar abilities but who may have diverse interests.

Students will be identified for first-time participation in IMAGE next year based on recent MAP scores for the same test session, together with the Cognitive Abilities Test. Specific scores needed on each can be found in the graphic below.

The CogAT will be conduced with groups of students in quiet test environments at their own schools or in the IMAGE classroom at South Elementary this spring. Parents and teachers will be notified of students' final qualification status by the end of the school year.

Note that IMAGE participation requires transportation by bus to and from a central district location, Oakestown Intermediate, during which students miss around 1/2 of that school day. Remote or homeschooled students will need family transportation.

Continued focus on core work, and a willingness to connect with teachers on any required work that was missed while away, are required. With limited time for each IMAGE class, instruction is faster-paced. Structured support is given both by the teacher and peers, but student self-motivation, self-direction, and willingness to take on - rather than avoid - difficult work are all necessary for success.
