It has been proposed by the School Advisory Committee that 21stCPA's shorter calendar year results in challenges for some families who lack childcare options during the weeks that APS resumes but we are still not in session. They have shown that most childcare programs offered in Albuquerque over the summer end in alignment with APS's start date. Our Governing Board has requested we collect feedback from staff and families.
When the school was first founded in 2000, staff and parents decided on our current school day and calendar for a number of reasons, which are outlined below:
- More time with their families in the summer months.
- Out of School Instruction (OSIs) requiring longer days to account for transportation time to and from the various locations.
- State testing windows, which currently align with ending the final week of May (and allowing space between each testing window so that students are not overwhelmed with tests in the final month of school).
