Georgia AAU Betty Lowe Citizenship Award

The Georgia AAU Betty Lowe Citizenship Award will assist with college, technical and trade school continued education expenses after high school graduation. This is our opportunity to invest in our AAU current and former athletes. The Georgia AAU is proud to announce that we will be awarding ten $1,000 scholarships. All awards will be mailed directly to the applicant's college, trade or technical school.  This awards application will only be accepted using this online form with all requirements as listed below. Candidates will be evaluated based on the quality and completeness of their applications.  Selection criteria that will also be considered is passion for their sport and any additional goals as stated in Sections 4, 5, and 6 of this application.  Complete applications must be submitted by June 1, 2024.

All applicants who are selected will be required to provide:

The proper instructions for distribution of funds as required by the rules and policies of their educational institution, including:
  • Mailing address of the institution
  • Department where the funds should be sent
  • Name of person, if any,  to direct funds
A short bio and headshot for posting on the AAU National website 


Qualifications: 

  • Be a 2024 graduating senior
  • Be a current Georgia AAU member
  • Participated as a competitive AAU athlete in AAU licensed events (Invitationals, State/District Championship, Regional Championship, or National Championship) for at least two years
  • Been accepted by a college, university, trade or technical school, and will be attending Fall 2024

Application Requirements: 

  • Section 1: Personal information
  • Section 2: High School, College/Technical/Trade School academic information
  • Section 3: Participation in AAU Events
  • Section 4: List top four accomplishments outside of your athletic achievements
  • Section 5: Only 200 word maximum is allowed in this section, giving advice as a role model to younger athletes who want to be successful student athletes
  • Section 6: Only 500 word maximum is allowed in this section, providing an essay about your experience in AAU and how AAU has helped you obtain valuable life lessons which will aid you in achieving your future goals.
  • The acceptance letter from your college, technical or trade school (scanned and emailed to James Henry at jhenrykd@gmail.com)
  • A recommendation letter from your mentor, high school counselor or home school accreditation advisor (emailed to James Henry at jhenrykd@gmail.com)
