SkyRoot Farm is a 20-acre, certified organic, integrated vegetable farm (with 1.5 acres in veggie production) on South Whidbey Island. We would love for you to join our Virtual Farmstand program! As a member of the Virtual Farmstand you will receive an email each week with a link to an order form listing what the farm has to offer. You order what you want and pick-up a pre-packed box on the farm (Clinton), just off the highway in Freeland or in downtown Langley. In general, Virtual Farmstand pick-ups are on Wednesday, but we may also offer a Saturday pick-up at the height of the season.
Every week we will offer weekly staples such as cooking greens, roots, and salad mix, as well as a rotating variety of farm abundance. Throughout the season you can also expect to see arugula, radishes, zucchini, tomatoes, beets, carrots, fennel and so much more!
We are aware that the Virtual Farmstand is an option that many customers find less overwhelming than a CSA share because they can stick with familiar vegetables. From the farmer's perspective, one of the benefits of the CSA is that we can create the year's crop plan around a quantity of pre-sold vegetables. Another benefit is that much of the administration of the CSA happens early in the year, and we are done processing the majority of sign-ups and payments before the height of the planting and harvest season. This also helps us have money in the bank to buy seeds and other supplies at a time of year when we don't have many vegetables to sell. If you appreciate the work we're doing and anticipate regular orders from the Virtual Farmstand, please consider paying up front for multiple orders, similar to signing up for a CSA share at the beginning of the season. We have a well-honed system for tracking farmstand deposits, payments, and debits.
We bill monthly for the farmstand. Weekly payments increase the administrative burden of the program. Each time you order your receipt will show the current week's order total and your cumulative balance. We also email customers their balance as the end of the month approaches. We are keenly aware that access to good food is not equitable and not everyone can afford to pay in advance. We want everyone to be able to eat as many vegetables as possible, so paying each week will remain an option. However, if you have the means, even paying for two weeks at a time lessens our time in the officeand is much appreciated.
