Year in doctoral program as of Fall 2021 semester *
2019-20 STOFs must be in years 3-7 of a Columbia University doctoral program as of Fall 2019.
Will you be within commuting distance of campus during AY 2021-22? (If you are unsure, check Other and please describe) *
With the expectation that Columbia will return to in-person teaching in the fall, preference will be given to candidates who will be within commuting distance of campus and able to meet with their peers for community building activity. Though the current pandemic situations are always somewhat in flux, we are confident that a return to in-person classes will likely mean that most TOFs will be actively present on campus.
Teaching or administrative commitments for the 2021-22 academic year. (Please list all) *
Do you have any plans for travel, research, or other commitments that might draw you away from STOF responsibilities and the TOF program at any point during the 2021-22 academic year? *
If you know you will be unavailable at any point during the next academic year due to extended research or vacation travel (i.e., a week or longer), due to planned leave (e.g., parental leave), and/or due to frequent or recurring unavailability, please explain briefly below.
The 2021-22 TOF Fall Kickoff will be a half-day meeting on EITHER Thursday, September 2nd OR Friday, September 17th, 2021. If you know of a scheduling conflict for either day, check Other and please describe: *
Required
We will review your teaching history listed on your TOF personal page. Please confirm that this page is up to date. *
Required
Please provide an up-to-date list of teaching-related certification, training, and other activities that you've engaged in beyond the TOF program. Please include any teaching experience gained since participating in the TOF program.
Could include participation in specific CTL events; participation in workshops or other non-TOF teaching development within your department; pertinent presentations and conference attendance.
Please list any recent work experiences (besides teaching) pertinent to STOF activities.
This could include communications, outreach, training, mentorship, administrative support, etc.
Drawing on your experience as a TOF, what would you prioritize and do as a STOF to ensure that members of your 'pod' were effective peer collaborators? How would you encourage them to participate in a diverse set of teaching activities? *
Please give us a sense of your particular approach to providing oversight and mentorship to TOFs.
Proposed topics for your pod community *
To help build a teaching community, 2021-22 STOFs will be tasked with designing and facilitating pod conversations on pedagogical topics. These conversations will help pod members explore literature that is of particular interest to the TOF program and will take place 2-3 times each semester. Please propose 1-2 topics or resources/texts and ideas for how you would structure these pod conversations next year.
We encourage you to submit additional documents in support of your application, but these are not required.
These might include recommendations from faculty and/or evidence of your effectiveness as an administrator and/or mentor. All supplemental materials should be emailed to CTLgrads@columbia.edu by the application deadline (Monday, July 19th).
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
