Advanced Placement/Honors Information and Enrollment Agreement
As part of our academic program, students have the opportunity to take Honors courses in grades 9-12 as well as Advanced Placement (AP) courses in grades 11-12. They are challenging, yet rewarding, classes for those students who are willing to put forth the extra effort. Honors courses are advanced high school courses. AP courses are college-level courses in high school. Colleges might award college credit to students that have passed the AP Exam. Grove recommends that student don't take more than two AP classes each school year.
Honors and non-Honor students will be scheduled into the same class period. Students signing up for the Honors class will complete additional assignments and projects and will be held to a higher standard for their work.
Throughout these courses, some assignments may require extensive time outside of class. When making the decision to select Honors/AP courses, students should consider factors such as involvement in extracurricular activities, ability to work independently, and the total number of Honors courses they plan to take that year. Both student and parent must be aware that Honors/AP work is rigorous. It is imperative that students and parents understand the commitment before making the obligation because SCHEDULE CHANGES MAY NOT BE GRANTED.
Grove encourages students to log into their College Board account and check out the AP Potential tool. Note: This tool might not be available or accurate for students that did not take the PSAT this year.
Students who wish to register for an Honors/AP courses must sign the following contract in order to be enrolled:
