The 2021 Southeast Professors of Middle Level Education (SEPoMLE) Symposium Conference Committee invites educators who are interested in sharing "works in progress" at the May 20-21, 2021 SEPoMLE Conference submit your proposals.

Proposed presentations should be 10-12 minutes of information followed by questions to ponder, and a focus on how we can support our students.

In particular, there is interest in presentations related to:
Reflecting on the past while preparing for the future of middle level education
Best practices in the current environment
Remote learning, racial equity and social justice, health and well-being/ SEL
Celebrating successes in teacher prep
What is needed now in colleges of education and middle schools

Presentations should be 10-12 minutes in length, followed by questions, dialogue, and recommendations for Colleges of Education. Presenters should plan for up to 25 participants who attend the session. We recommend a video presentation.

Reviews of presentation proposals center on the clarity of focus and learning objectives; appropriateness of content and presentation activities; facilitator plans for supporting participants; and interest/relevance to the SEPOMLE participants. Acceptance of proposals is based on proposal quality and the desire to create a balanced slate of offerings to the SEPOMLE participants.

Proposals are considered based on the following 5 dimensions.
Importance – Is content important/relevant or innovative/new to middle level education?
Objectives – Are learning objectives clear, relevant, and realistic?
Expertise – Does the presenter demonstrate expertise in the topic?
Active Engagement – Will the presenters demonstrate active engagement and effective educational
       practices in their session?
Symposium Theme - the session is connected to the theme and/or one or more of the focus areas

All speakers must register for the symposium in confirmation of their willingness to attend and present. Speakers will be notified by March 15 on the status of proposal acceptance. Speakers may submit more than one proposal using separate entries.

On behalf of the entire SEPoMLE Planning Committee, thank you in advance for submitting your proposal.
