The NHAA Awards Program recognises academic achievement and excellence in scientific research, professional development and emerging scientific talent and recognises those who have made significant contributions to the naturopathic and herbal medicine professions and community.
These are the pinnacle awards in our profession and will be presented to the recipients at the NHAA Gala Awards Dinner at the Naturopathic Symposium 2023 on 27 May
The NHAA Gala Awards Dinner provides a wonderful opportunity for peers to formally recognise and celebrate leaders in their field who are striving to advance the quality and standard of the profession.
Awards are open to both members and non-members and award categories are as follows:
- Notable Contributions to Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine
- Notable Contributions to Naturopathic and Herbal Medicine Education
- Early Career Research in Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine
- Student of the Year
- AJHNM Article of the Year

Notable Contributions to Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine
This award recognises distinguished theoretical or empirical contributions to advance the evidence base of naturopathy and/or herbal medicine. The contribution may lead to an improved understanding of clinical application, practice, policy, education or the broader profession.
Notable Contributions to Naturopathic and Herbal Medicine Education
This award recognises advancement in naturopathic and/or herbal medicine education. The contribution may lead to a higher standard of education or improved opportunities for students or practitioners to further their academic education or professional development opportunities for practitioners.
Early Career Research in Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine
This award recognises excellence in scientific advancement in naturopathy and/or herbal medicine among naturopaths/herbalists, who are at the early stages of their research career in Australia. The Early Career Research in Naturopathy and/or Herbal Medicine award aims to recognise candidates whose achievements are outstanding compared to their peers. Candidates will have completed research within 5 years of receiving a PhD.
This award recognises either a current student or a student who has completed their education in the 12 months prior to the call for award nominations and is awaiting graduation, or who has recently graduated and demonstrated excellence in academic achievement, or a commitment to professional development and the broader profession. The award is open to undergraduate and post-graduate students.
AJHNM Article of the Year
This award recognises excellence in publication in the Australian Journal of Herbal and Naturopathic Medicine in the 12 months prior to the call for award nominations. Eligible articles will provide distinguished theoretical or empirical contributions to advance the evidence base of naturopathic and/or herbal medicine. The contribution may lead to an improved understanding of clinical application, practice, policy, education, or the broader profession.
