Giusy Di Filippo and Martina Di Florio, "Migrazioni Contemporanee: Testi e Contesti". New York: Edizioni Farinelli, 2017.
Giusy Di Filippo and Martina di Florio will present their recently published book on contemporary migration and discuss ways to implement this topic in the Italian curriculum.
The “Italian literature of migration” is one of the most important contemporary topics discussed at annual conferences among the scholars of Italian literature and cultural studies and it has also become a field of study in many American universities and colleges. This workshop is aimed at showing the multiple ways in which the study of the transnational experience promotes the knowledge of contemporary Italian language, culture and society among the high school students. By describing some exercises and activities proposed throughout the book, the workshop will showcase how teachers can use a variety of pedagogical approaches to promote high levels of analysis, reasoning, and questioning among students while engaging them in oral dialogs, build their vocabulary, and help them to make cultural comparisons and connections.
