What is a Democracy Lab?
Local Democracy Lab is an online public deliberation event which gathers people across Scotland to discuss their trust in democracy in the times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
 
Who is organizing the Democracy labs?
It is organized as a part of the Populism and Civic Engagement (PaCE) project, an EU-funded research and innovation programme, aiming to understand and address the negative tendencies associated with populism politics. Democracy Labs are organized by Democratic Society, City of Reykjavik and Citizens Foundation in collaboration with local partners.
 
How does it work?
During 3 hours, we discuss in small groups several questions around the topic of trust in democracy in relation to the times of the covid-19 pandemic. By engaging with people across Europe, we invite you to share your opinion about the condition of democracy and your trust in decisions made by public authorities. This knowledge will feed in the PaCE research findings and the outcomes will be widely disseminated among policymakers in Europe.
 
Who can participate?
We encourage everyone to participate, including minorities, people with a migration background, of different educational and professional backgrounds and we strive to ensure gender balance. You are welcome to join if you:
-> are at least 16 years old
-> live in Scotland
-> enjoy sharing ideas and discussing them with others
 
Where will it take place?
The event will be held online via Zoom platform and take about three hours. Your discussion will be moderated by facilitators and will happen in small groups to encourage meaningful and constructive interaction. Democracy Lab is preceded by idea generation and exchange through Your Priorities platform.
