With the help of local non-profits, landowners West of Mt Shasta plan to conduct a prescribed burn on three parcels of their property in or around May 26th, 2023.

The total area of the burn is six acres, and neighbors are invited to observe. The goal of the burn is to increase fire safety and promote forest health.

 The organization Torchbearr will lead this burn in collaboration with the Siskiyou Prescribed Burn Association, Cal Fire, and other partners, pending an approved burn plan, burn permit, smoke permit, and cooperative weather conditions.

Low intensity intentional fire applied at the right times of year in the right places can clean up accumulated fuels around homes, thus protecting communities during more intense wildfires. Prescribed burning can also create wildlife habitat, reduce pest infestations, and improve both forest and community resilience during wildfires.
