Dear friends, recently I completed a course with the
Institute for Dream Studies and received a certification as a Dreamwork
Professional. The Institute for Dream
Studies was founded by Justina Lasley, originally from the Atlanta area, who
was inspired by Jeremy Taylor to pursue education in transpersonal therapy and
dream work later in her life after raising her children and sending them to
college.
Group dream work differs greatly from working on your dreams
by yourself or with an individual therapist.
Having multiple perspectives can help bring out a richer understanding
of a dream and the group identity also provides support and connection. In addition, the approach that Justina Lasley
taught uses a transpersonal approach to the dreams, which allows us to make use
of projections as opposed to having to avoid them.
It is important to emphasize how this kind of group dream
work closely aligns with social justice work and environmentalism, especially in
bringing the shadow to light, which Dr. Taylor strongly emphasized in his
teachings on dream work.
So please join me in an introductory workshop on group dream
work on Saturday January 21st @ 5 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist
Congregation of Gwinnett. The workshop
will last about two hours and will consist of about a half-hour of introduction
and explanation, but the “meat” of it will be sharing and talking about
dreams. Ideally, everyone would have a
chance to share their dream with the group.
Then we would pick one or two dreams to work in depth on. For those that find this kind of work
interesting, we would hope to form an ongoing dream work group to continue the
group dream sharing.
