R is an open-source statistical software and is a powerful tool for data analysis. There is an opportunity to make R training more accessible and tailored to the broader communities of practice in the Global South. TGHN is planning on organising data clinics and clubs to deliver R training.
- Data Clubs: TGHN will deliver regular virtual sessions that cover introductory R topics, such as syntax, data cleaning, and basic data analysis and visualization. Specific advanced topics may also be explored according to regional priorities, such as creating automated surveillance reports with RMarkdown, or preparing data dashboards with RShiny. Sessions will be delivered in English (with the future prospect of incorporating additional languages).
- Data Clinics: Regional partners may connect with TGHN regarding specific queries related to their own data in between Data Club sessions. To be dealt with during Data Clinics, queries must have the potential to give rise to the development of mutually beneficial collaborations between researchers (publications or joint research projects). The group session will improve the researchers’ data management and analytical skills to achieve their research objectives and uptake. Data experts act as tutors, i.e., they explain how to do a process, but without committing themselves to the final result because the execution depends on the mentee.
