PFD Types
When going paddling, a Personal Floation Device (PFD) is an essential piece of safety gear.  

There are several different types of Lifejackets and PFDs.  The two images below, from Scouts Canada, show some of the common types.  This is not the only way to classify PFD's, other countries and various manufacturers may use a different systems and there is some overlap.  For example, Children's PFD's often are both Childern's PFDs (by size) and also a Small Vessel Lifejacket since they meet that standard for that as well.
